Gerina Stevenson, the Mexican mother of Rita Stevenson Stevenson and Alan Stevenson Stevenson, was born in Mexico. Her heritage is Mexican American but has American citizenship. Her passion for sports began as a small child. Gerina began playing golf at the age of 15 years old. Gerina completed her high school education in Goddard High School. She was the winner of at the New Mexico State Golf Tournament in her high school years. She was also a volleyball player and competed at the national level. At the age of 2003, she enrolled at the University of Texas. In her senior year, she won every tournament she took part in. While in her undergrad year, she received the Conference USA's player of the year as well as UTEP Female Athletic of Year.
